Overview
The Mayo Clinic Hepatobiliary Cancer Patient Retreat will be held Feb. 1-2, 2025, in Waugh Auditorium, located in Mayo Clinic Hospital on Mayo Clinic's Phoenix, Arizona campus. The two-day event starts Sunday, Feb. 1, 2025, at 4 p.m. MT with plenary talks, advocate introductions, reception and dinner. Speaker presentations will follow on Monday, Feb. 2, 2025, from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. MT.
This retreat is dedicated to patients and advocates interested in the treatment and cure of liver cancers. People living with liver cancer and their caregivers face new challenges. Our goal is to help provide information, resources, and a sense of community for anyone impacted by liver cancer, including tips, advocacy groups and other organizations to help guide you.
You’ll also learn how research in the Mayo Clinic Comprehensive Cancer Center Hepatobiliary Cancer SPORE is driving new discoveries that are providing important insights about the biology of hepatobiliary cancers.
Presentations are planned on new diagnostic tests, screening treatment compounds, launching new clinical trials, identifying biomarkers and harnessing the power of oncolytic viruses to attack cancer. Research advances in the SPORE can change the trajectory of liver cancer and bile duct cancer, offering optimism for patients.
Research topics will tumor metabolism, cancer immunology and immune microenvironment, precision therapy, and precursor lesions, early detection and interception.
This event is organized and supported by the Mayo Clinic Comprehensive Cancer Center Specialized Programs in Research Excellence Hepatobiliary Cancer SPORE and the National Cancer Institute.
As the first SPORE of its kind in the United States, the Mayo Clinic Hepatobiliary SPORE is devoted to improving the diagnosis and treatment of liver cancer (hepatocellular carcinoma) and bile duct cancer (cholangiocarcinoma), which are grouped together as hepatobiliary cancers.
