Closing the gap
Dr. Brewer, left, meets with a community member to discuss cardiovascular health strategies.
Overview
The Cardiovascular Community Health Collaborative Laboratory, led by cardiologist LaPrincess C. Brewer, M.D., M.P.H., researches and develops strategies to eliminate disparities in cardiovascular health in understudied populations.
Our goal is to close the gap in healthcare outcomes through innovative primary and secondary cardiovascular disease prevention strategies and community-based interventions. We integrate community-based participatory research approaches to cocreate patient-centric, culturally aware, health promotion and lifestyle interventions alongside patients, caregivers and community partners.
Our interventions incorporate unique digital and mobile health (mHealth) tools to promote cardiovascular health.
We leverage academic-community partnerships to conduct research that reflects patient and community priorities. These partnerships also enable our team to increase participation by people who have been historically understudied in cardiovascular clinical trials and medical research.
Our research focus areas include:
- Primary and secondary cardiovascular disease prevention.
- Community-based participatory research.
- Digital health interventions.
- Behavioral and lifestyle interventions.
