SUMMARY
Stacey A. Rizza, M.D., has both a clinical and research practice. Her clinical practice is focused on HIV and transplant infectious diseases, while her research work investigates how HIV and hepatitis C virus cause liver disease.
Focus areas
- Role of TNF-receptor apoptosis inducing ligand (TRAIL) and hepatocyte apoptosis during co-infection
Significance to patient care
Although there have been many advances in the treatment of HIV infection, liver disease is still a major cause of morbidity and mortality for individuals living with HIV in the U.S. Investigations by Dr. Rizza and her colleagues are designed to identify why and how HIV worsens liver disease and find ways to decrease liver disease during HIV infection.
