marcotte.francois@mayo.edu Clinical Profile

SUMMARY

Francois Marcotte, M.D., focuses his research on adult congenital heart disease and noninvasive cardiac imaging. He aims to improve diagnostic techniques and patient outcomes in transthoracic, transesophageal, stress and congenital heart disease echocardiography as well as cardiac MRI. He uses advanced imaging modalities to better understand and manage complex cardiac conditions.

Focus areas

  • Adult congenital heart disease. Dr. Marcotte focuses on the management and outcomes of adult patients with congenital heart disease, particularly those with repaired tetralogy of Fallot, systemic right ventricles and Fontan physiology.
  • Cardiac MRI. Dr. Marcotte explores cardiac MRI to assess cardiac function and structure, contributing to the development of noninvasive imaging techniques for better diagnosis and treatment planning in heart disease. He assists on several projects using cardiac MRI as a reference imaging modality.
  • Echocardiography. His work includes advancing echocardiographic evaluation methods for various cardiac concerns — in particular, aortic valve disease and prosthetic heart valves. He focuses on improving imaging quality and diagnostic reliability, integrating the use of biomarkers.
  • Nonischemic cardiomyopathies. Dr. Marcotte's research aims to find the underlying mechanisms and clinical features of nonischemic cardiomyopathies, including arrhythmogenic and hypertrophic cardiomyopathies. He also investigates the use of imaging techniques to guide therapeutic interventions.

Significance to patient care

Dr. Marcotte's research helps healthcare professionals give better care to patients with heart disease. He studies heart conditions that people are born with to learn how they affect people over time and how to treat them. His work also improves heart imaging tools such as echocardiography and cardiac MRI, making it easier to find heart conditions and choose the right treatments.
