SUMMARY
Yuguang Liu, Ph.D., focuses her research on developing point-of care microfluidic platforms for rapid and sensitive immunodiagnostics, infectious disease diagnostics, and microbial single-cell, whole-genome and transcriptome sequencing. In the long term, Dr. Liu aims to bring these point-of-care tools to bedsides, intensive care units, operating rooms and physician offices for early disease detection and regular therapeutic monitoring.
Focus areas
- Developing an integrated microfluidic device that includes rapid sample preparation and biomarker detection
- Developing a point-of-care platform for immune profiling from microliters of blood to monitor therapies on a regular basis
- Developing a microfluidic tool to rapidly diagnose bloodborne infections and viral infections
Significance to patient care
Microfluidic technologies have been gaining attention for a variety of biological and medical applications due to their intrinsic abilities of handling of microscale to nanoscale of fluids in a precise manner. These technologies significantly reduce the fluid volume and reaction time while increasing the detection resolution and sensitivity.
Dr. Liu's research efforts enable extracting information from patient samples for accurate diagnosis and close monitoring of diseases and patients' immune and therapeutic responses rapidly, prompting individualized interventional strategies in a timely manner.
