SUMMARY

The clinical and research interests of Hilary M. DuBrock, M.D., include pulmonary hypertension and pulmonary vascular complications of liver disease, including portopulmonary hypertension and hepatopulmonary syndrome. Her work also pertains to using artificial intelligence (AI) to aid in the early diagnosis of pulmonary hypertension. Dr. DuBrock's research aims to improve the quality of life for patients with pulmonary hypertension.

Focus areas

  • Pulmonary vascular complications of liver disease. Dr. DuBrock is interested in pathophysiology, diagnosis and management of portopulmonary hypertension and hepatopulmonary syndrome. Her research identifies new biomarkers and prognostic indicators. Dr. DuBrock has authored international guidelines on portopulmonary hypertension.
  • AI and early diagnosis of pulmonary hypertension. Diagnostic delays in pulmonary hypertension are common and associated with worse outcomes. Dr. DuBrock's research aims to describe the economic burden of diagnostic delays and their impact on survival. In collaboration with others, Dr. DuBrock also has developed an early detection algorithm for pulmonary hypertension using AI applied to electrocardiograms.
  • Patient-reported outcomes and pulmonary hypertension. Dr. DuBrock also focuses on the importance of patient-reported outcomes in the routine clinical assessment of patients with pulmonary hypertension.

Significance to patient care

Dr. DuBrock studies ways to improve the early detection and diagnosis of pulmonary hypertension. This condition is marked by high blood pressure in the arteries of the lungs. She also works to improve the quality of life for patients with pulmonary hypertension and to better understand this condition in the setting of liver disease.
