SUMMARY

Michael V. Burke, Ed.D., studies the treatment of tobacco use disorder. His research interests include treatment effectiveness, implementation of different treatment models into health care delivery, counseling and pharmacotherapy interventions, and improving the reach and sustainability of treatment.

  • Effectiveness of individual, group, inpatient and residential treatment for tobacco use disorder

Significance to patient care

Tobacco use disorder remains the No. 1 cause of preventable and premature death in the U.S. Effective treatment helps people who are tobacco dependent become smoke-free and reduce their risk of premature death and disease. Improving the delivery of evidence-based treatment into health care can significantly improve patient outcomes.
