SUMMARY

Philippe R. Bauer, M.D., Ph.D., has research interests in both critical care medicine and pulmonary medicine.

Focus areas

  • Intubation safety. Dr. Bauer's research improves the quality and safety of intubation while preventing harm, particularly for patients with difficult anatomical and physiological airways.
  • Acute respiratory failure in patients who are immunosuppressed. Dr. Bauer studies the causes and consequences of acute respiratory failure in patients who are immunosuppressed. He also aims to find the means to mitigate long-term outcomes.

Significance to patient care

Critical care helps support the body when a patient is sick or injured. This care can sometimes lead to long-term conditions that affect the body, mind and emotions. Dr. Bauer's research looks for ways to make intensive care safer and more helpful by finding the best ways to support early recovery while respecting each patient's values and preferences.
