  • A Mixed Methods Assessment of Recruitment in an Asthma Clinical Trial: Precision Interventions for Severe Asthma (PrecISE) (PrecISE) Scottsdale/Phoenix, Ariz.

The purpose of this study is to identify the reasons for deferred randomization and trial participation based on demographic factors, including sex, age, race, and ethnicity with a mixed methods study. We will employ an exploratory quantitative study of PreCISE network data examining those who were screened but did not undergo randomization. We will explore data including a review of reasons for deferred randomization and trial participation and demographics, including sex, age, race, and ethnicity, compared to volunteers who underwent screening and randomization (N=358). Demographic data reviewed will include individuals who were ineligible due to incomplete data (N=187) and those who refused to join (N=106). We will also conduct semi structured, qualitative interviews utilizing grounded theory methodology including site PIs and CRCs to determine 1) factors that facilitated study enrollment and 2) barriers to enrollment. One representative from each of the 33 PrecISE sites will be invited to participate in a semi structured, qualitative interview lasting no more than 30 minutes. Study staff include either site PIs or CRCs who were involved in PrecISE recruitment efforts.
