The purpose of this study is to determine whether WNT/b-catenin signaling is upregulated in alveolar macrophages (AMs) in children following exposure to common viral or bacterial pathogens that cause acute lower respiratory tract infections (LRTIs). We will also probe underlying respiratory and circulating immunological mechanisms contributing to the differences of disease severity between pediatric and elderly populations following COVID-19 infection.
