OVERVIEW

Mayo Clinic is committed to being a trusted and effective health care research collaborator of the Department of Defense (DOD) and related governmental agencies. To meet this goal, the Military Medicine Program team creates and delivers unique, advanced medical education to military and government agency teams, deploying a vast array of modeling and simulation tools. We also partner with experts in research and clinical care to advance treatment options and develop products that directly improve health care for military members as well as Mayo Clinic's patient population.

Mayo Clinic is proud to provide medical care to active-duty service members, retirees and their families, and to deliver world-class medical training to service members in Arizona, Florida and Minnesota.

Mayo Clinic has a robust research program addressing the needs of the military, with several investigators funded by the DOD. Mayo has made significant contributions in militarily relevant biomedical research, including work on:

  • Aerospace medicine and vestibular research.
  • Assistive and restorative technology.
  • Biomaterials.
  • Chronic pain.
  • Infectious diseases.
  • Motion analysis.
  • Physiology and biomedical engineering.
  • Rehabilitation medicine.
  • Tissue engineering.

The Military Medicine Program serves as a point of contact for Mayo Clinic researchers and collaborators interested in engaging with DOD research initiatives. This exchange helps our scientists understand the special needs of the military and how research can support service members in and out of uniform.

Additionally, the program works closely with the DOD to find additional opportunities to leverage Mayo Clinic's strengths, such as complex health care and transplantation, to better serve active-duty service members, veterans and retirees. Mayo Clinic's Military Medicine Program is committed to understanding and addressing service members' unique needs on and off the battlefield.
