When I completed the Molecular Genetics Internship at Mayo Clinic, I knew the information I gained would be useful, even though I wasn't quite sure where I was headed. I ended up at the University of California Los Angeles in a Ph.D. program in oral biology, and I feel the internship at Mayo Clinic helped me achieve this goal.

While my field of choice on the outset may not seem to be directly applicable to molecular genetics, I am always able to find ways to integrate the techniques I learned during my preceptorship at Mayo and know this has given me an advantage in my work. Not only am I able to apply molecular techniques to a different field, but I also have a connection with the mentors and staff I met while going through the program.
