Michael Murphy

Founding Partner and Executive Director, MASS Design Group

Michael Murphy co-founded MASS Design Group in 2007. Murphy was a recipient of the 2010 Design Futures Council Emerging Leaders scholarship, deemed a "Master of Design" in 2010 by Fast Company magazine, named a 2011 "Game Changer" by Metropolis magazine, and honored in the PopTech Fellows class of 2011 as a leader in technology innovation.

He also led the design and construction of Butaro Hospital in Rwanda, which opened in January 2011.

Murphy, who has a master's degree in architecture from Harvard Graduate School of Design, has taught courses on design for infection control at Harvard School of Public Health and was a 2011 entrepreneur in residence at Clark University. With business partner Alan Ricks, he recently accepted the award for 2012 Designer of the Year from Contract magazine.
