Emir Festic, M.D.

Emir Festic, M.D., of Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Fla., is looking forward to acquiring new knowledge, allowing him to conceptualize, implement and complete clinical trials with a common goal of advancing science and translating it into patients' lives.

"I want to expand my understanding of biostatistics, medical informatics, applied immunology, clinical genomics and epidemiology in translational science," says Dr. Festic.

Dr. Festic is studying inhaled corticosteroids and other inhaled medications for the prevention of acute respiratory distress syndrome. By administering inhaled medications, systemic adverse effects will be minimized, ensuring the patient's safety.

"The related studies on animal subjects as well as observational studies support the potential preventive effect of the inhaled corticosteroids. I am excited to advance the science by bringing our trial to successful completion and translating the findings into clinical practice," says Dr. Festic.

Dr. Festic says he's impressed with the "can do better" philosophy and attitude that he sees in the clinical and research areas of Mayo Clinic.

"The collegiality, nurturing atmosphere and support for early investigators are probably unsurpassed. I am humbled by the opportunity given to me and look at it as an obligation to succeed and contribute to the patients and the Mayo Clinic community. I am looking forward to further strengthening research collaborations between Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., and in Florida," says Dr. Festic.
