Elizabeth Ann T. Lieser
Why did you choose research as a career?
I enjoy problem-solving, and research gives me an excellent opportunity to discover knowledge gaps in science and ask questions.
What attracted you to Mayo Graduate School?
I love that your stipend is not based on your mentor's funding, so you can choose a lab based on the research you want to do and not based on who has the most money.
Why did you choose the clinical and translational science track?
Knowing that the research I am doing can be quickly transferred from bench to bedside makes what I do much more meaningful and makes me work that much harder for patients.
What do you like about Rochester, Minn.?
It's got the big-city lifestyle with the small-town feel. There are plenty of amazing restaurants and concerts in the area, plus during the summer there are tons of bike trails to explore.
What are your plans for the future?
I hope to someday run my own lab or business doing patient-centered research in the context of gender and immunology.
