Ann Vincent, M.B.B.S., M.D.

Ann Vincent, MBBS, M.D., of Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., is using clinical and translational research to find more practical applications for her clinical practice. She's interested in fibromyalgia-caused fatigue and wants to improve the ability of patients and clinicians to report and quantify this fatigue.

"Currently, the field of fatigue evaluation is deficient in comprehensive assessment methods," Dr. Vincent says. "Tools commonly used to assess fatigue include self-report questionnaires and physiological measurements. However, fatigue is multifactorial, so a combination of questionnaires and measurements may be more appropriate to characterize the multiple attributes of fatigue."

During her time in the KL2 Mentored Career Development Program, Dr. Vincent plans to lay the groundwork for an integrated fatigue assessment protocol, which will assist her in evaluating — through randomized clinical trials — the efficacy of different therapies for treating fatigue in fibromyalgia.
