The Fellowship in Perioperative Nursing follows the Periop 101: A Core

Curriculum from the Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN). Your training topics will include:

During your perioperative nursing clinical experience, you will care for patients who are undergoing general and specialty surgery, such as:

  • Cardiac
  • Colon and rectal
  • Gynecologic, reproductive and endocrinology
  • Neurosurgery
  • Orthopedic
  • Otorhinolaryngology/oral/ophthalmologic
  • Plastic
  • Thoracic/vascular
  • Organ transplant
  • Trauma/critical care
  • Urology

You will work closely with registered nurses, surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurse anesthetists, surgical technologists and other surgical team members to provide individualized care to patients undergoing surgery.

Grading or Evaluation
Mayo School of Health Sciences uses evaluative tools that include:

Our system of evaluation provides students and faculty with a comprehensive look at individual performance, allowing students who are experiencing academic difficulty to be directed to appropriate support resources, including tutoring programs and counseling opportunities.
