Mission: Mayo Clinic Hematology / Oncology Pharmacy Residency will develop Hematology / Oncology Pharmacists that will concatenate compassionate patient care in acute care, ambulatory care, and clinical faculty settings with a passion for leading the profession in education and research.
Program Description
Mayo Clinic College of Medicine in Rochester, Minn., offers a one-year postgraduate PGY-2 Oncology Pharmacy Practice Residency. The program is designed for practitioners who desire advanced training in oncology pharmacotherapy.
This program provides the high-quality didactic and clinical experiences needed to create a well-rounded, fully competent oncology pharmacist. As an oncology pharmacy practice resident you will:
- Develop expertise, knowledge and skills in oncology therapeutics.
- Contribute to an interdisciplinary health-care team offering patient-specific therapeutic interventions to treat, cure, rehabilitate and alleviate medical conditions and diseases unique to cancer patients.
- Enhance your skills in conducting clinical research.
- Strengthen your communication skills by presenting formal and informal lectures, writing professional manuscripts and leading interdisciplinary discussions.
Mayo Clinic’s Oncology Pharmacy Practice Residency provides opportunities for advanced training in all areas related to cancer. During each rotation you will work closely with your primary preceptor, highly qualified pharmacists, as well as oncology physicians and other allied health professionals.
Accreditation
Mayo School of Health Sciences’ Oncology Pharmacy Practice Residency is accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP).
Facilities
The Mayo Clinic campus in Rochester is comprised of an extensive outpatient complex, Saint Marys Hospital, Rochester Methodist Hospital, as well as multiple research and education facilities. The Mayo Clinic Cancer Center is a National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated cancer center with a national presence. More than 19,500 new cancer patients are treated at Mayo Clinic every year, making it one of the largest cancer treatment facilities in the nation. Hundreds of clinical trials are available for patients, led by Mayo scientists, the North Central Cancer Treatment Group or Cancer Prevention Network. Additional trials are also available through cooperative research agreements with the NCI and other clinical trial groups.
Certification
Upon successful completion of your PGY-2 Oncology Pharmacy Practice Residency, you will receive a Certificate of Completion from the Mayo College of Medicine, Mayo School of Health Sciences. Graduates are eligible to take the Board of Pharmaceutical Specialties’ examinations in oncology pharmacy and/or pharmacotherapy.
Hours
For the majority of the residency, your learning schedule will include ten-hour days, five days per week. In addition, you will have a staffing component of approximately 16 hours per month.
Positions
Each year, Mayo School of Health Sciences welcomes one resident to its Oncology Pharmacy Practice Residency at Mayo Clinic in Rochester. This ensures you will receive a comprehensive educational experience with close one-on-one instruction. There are currently a total of ten pharmacy residents at Mayo Clinic in Rochester. |
