Program Description
Students enrolled in the physician assistant master’s program
at our affiliated education institution complete clinical rotations
at Mayo Clinic or other practice sites as part of their education.
The program’s curriculum includes a 12-month preclinical
phase, consisting primarily of classroom and laboratory activities
at the University of Wisconsin – LaCrosse. A subsequent 12-month
clinical phase involves rotations in the clinical specialties, including
a two-month family medicine preceptorship.
These clinical experiences are provided at Mayo Clinic, Mayo Health
System, Gundersen Lutheran Hospital and other practice sites in
southwestern Wisconsin, southern Minnesota and northeastern Iowa.
Accreditation
The Physician Assistant Program is accredited by The
Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs
(CAAHEP) through the Accreditation Review Committee for Physician
Assistant Education (ARC-PA). This association allows program graduates
to take the Physician Assistant National Certifying Exam (PANCE)
administered by the National Commission
on Certification of PAs (NCCPA).
Mayo Foundation is also accredited by the North Central Association
of Colleges and Schools Higher Learning Commission.

Facilities
The Mayo Clinic campus in Rochester comprises an extensive outpatient
complex, two hospitals, and research and education facilities. It
is among the largest, most advanced medical centers in the world.
Graduation and Certification
Upon successful completion of the Physician Assistant Program, graduates
from the University of Wisconsin – LaCrosse, receive a Master
of Science (M.S.) degree in physician assistant studies.
Graduates are eligible to take the Physician Assistant National
Certifying Exam (PANCE) administered by the National Commission
on Certification of PAs (NCCPA).
Class Size
Each year, the University Wisconsin – LaCrosse, Gundersen
Lutheran Hospital and Mayo School of Health Sciences admit up to
12 students. This ensures you will receive a comprehensive educational
experience with close one-on-one instruction.
