t(9;22) in CML

Translocation between chromosomes 9 and 22 found in Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML).  This translocation brings two different genes (Abelson oncogene/ABL and Breakpoint Cluster Region/BCR) together.  The new gene combination codes for a hybrid protein that alters the cell's regulatory mechanisms and causes cancer.

t(15;17) in APL

Translocation between chromosomes 15 and 17 found in Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia (APL).  This translocation brings two different genes (Promyelocytic Leukemia/PML and Retinoic Acid Receptor Alpha/RARa) together.  The new gene combination codes for a hybrid protein that alters the cell's regulatory mechanisms and causes cancer.
