Frequently Asked Questions
As an international graduate, can I apply to Mayo Clinic's Ophthalmology Residency Program?
Yes, if you meet certain requirements. You must be a graduate of a Medical school listed in the World's Directory of Medical Schools. You must have passed United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) Steps 1, 2 and 3, each within three attempts. Also, you must have completed within seven years, or passed the Federal Licensing Examination (FLEX) or Licentiate of the Medical Council of Canada (LMCC) Examination and completed two years of residency in an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) program. Lastly, you must have an Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) certificate.
These are state-specific requirements for Minnesota medical licensure as Mayo Clinic requires incoming ophthalmology residents to have a Minnesota medical license.
