Program Description
The four-year Radiology Residency Program at Mayo Clinic in Rochester
is designed for physicians who want a career in academic radiology
or private practice and who have an interest in education and research.
The volume of examinations, the pathology encountered, the cutting-edge
technology, and the availability of staff radiologists make this
training program an exceptional opportunity for residents.
The Department of Radiology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester performed
more than one million exams in 2004. This is the largest volume
of any single academic radiology department in the country. The
department has 21 MR scanners including two 3-Tesla magnets and
one full time dedicated research magnet. Additionally, there are
18 CT scanners including one 64 detector scanner. Seven more 64
detector scanners will be added during 2005. The department's equipment
also includes 43 ultrasound machines and seven interventional suites.
The nuclear radiology practice includes 23 nuclear medicine cameras,
two PET CT and one PET scanner. The department employees more than
1,100 individuals including 130 staff radiologists. The staff to
resident ratio is 2.4:1.
Accreditation
The Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education
(ACGME) accredits the Radiology Residency Program at Mayo Clinic
in Rochester.
Certification
You will be eligible for certification in radiology from
the American Board of Radiology upon completion of the residency.
Program History
The Radiology Residency Program in Rochester began in 1972,
and since that time, more than 300 physicians have completed training.
It is anticipated that twelve residents will complete training in
this program annually.
