Program Description
The three-year Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Fellowship Program at Mayo Clinic in Rochester can be customized to emphasize clinical training or research, depending on your individual career goals. The program's flexibility also gives you the opportunity to complete the requirements for certification in both pulmonary medicine and critical care medicine. Regardless of your career emphasis, you will receive instruction in basic research and be encouraged to participate in prospective or retrospective clinical research projects.
This fellowship is appropriate for physicians who are interested in either a clinical or an academic career in pulmonary and critical care medicine. The program offers:
- In-depth clinical exposure to patients with a diversity of pulmonary disorders and critical illnesses

Accreditation
The training program fulfills the requirements for training as stated by the American Board of Internal Medicine and is accredited by the Liaison Committee on Graduate Medical Education.
Certification
You will be eligible to take the American Board of Internal Medicine subspecialty examination in pulmonary and critical care upon completion of the fellowship.
Program History
The Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellowship began in 1965, and since that time more than 150 physicians have completed training. It is anticipated that four to five fellows will complete training in this program annually.
