The Mayo Clinic Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
(PM&R) focuses on fostering functional recovery for inpatients
and outpatients through an integrated, multidisciplinary team of
rehabilitation professionals. Founded in 1935, the department is
one of the largest in the nation, including 35 physiatrists (physicians
specializing in rehabilitation medicine), 167 physical therapists,
81 occupational therapists and five recreational therapists. Inpatient
services are offered at Saint Marys and Methodist Hospitals in Rochester
.
In addition to caring for patients in their clinical practices,
Mayo Clinic's faculty members are committed to teaching and facilitating
the growth of medical knowledge. Many of our faculty have published
and lectured extensively and are highly regarded in their field.
You will have direct access to the Physical
Medicine & Rehabilitation staff at Mayo Clinic in Rochester
throughout your training.

Advisors and Mentors
You will be assigned a faculty advisor who can provide educational
advice and personal support. Your advisor will serve as a contact
point, introducing you to Rochester and the Mayo Clinic system.
Visiting Professors
Many prominent professors visit Mayo Clinic each year. They present
their work during noon and/or morning lectures and participate in
hospital rounds. Resident attendance at these educational opportunities
is supported and encouraged.
