Program Description
Based on the extensive clinical experience of Mayo Clinic’s Division of Orthopedic Oncology (combined 132 years), the significant patient volume and the productive academic environment, the Musculoskeletal Oncology Fellowship at Mayo Clinic in Minnesota aims to be the premier training program for academic orthopedic oncologists. The program offers fellows a one or two year experience. The two-year program includes both basic science research and clinical fellowship experience, while the one-year program focuses on clinical work.

One year program
During the one year program, you will acquire special expertise in the technical components of musculoskeletal oncology. The technical component will give you the skills necessary to provide excellent patient management including the performance of skillful surgical procedures.

Two year program
Fellows who choose to participate in the two year program will spend the first year training in a basic research program focused on sarcoma biology. The second year provides an advanced education in clinical orthopedic oncology. The academic component includes exposure to all aspects related to orthopedic oncology. In addition, you will improve analytical skills, surgical judgment and clinical research creativity. It is anticipated that this training will prepare the individual for an academic career.

Accreditation
The training program fulfills the requirements for training as stated by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and is accredited by the Liaison Committee on Graduate Medical Education.

Program History
The Musculoskeletal Oncology Fellowship began in 1971. It is anticipated that one to two fellows will complete training in this program annually.
