Program Description
Mayo Clinic's three-year Orthodontics Residency Program will prepare you for a career in orthodontic private practice, academic medicine or research. During your training you will earn a master of biomedical sciences degree in addition to the certificate of training in orthodontics.

Case Studies
Throughout this program, you will prepare patient presentations for multidisciplinary discussion throughout your residency program. In addition, you will participate in the Craniofacial Conference, where complex dentofacial deformity patients are evaluated and their coordinated treatment is planned with specialists from plastic surgery, otolaryngology, medical genetics, speech pathology, psychology and social services.

Teaching Opportunities
You may have the opportunity to teach Mayo Medical School students and visiting students from other medical and dental schools through chair-side instruction and seminars.

Program and Graduate Outcomes
Of the residents who have trained in Mayo Clinic's Orthodontics Residency Program over the past decade, most are in private practice in various parts of the United States. All recent orthodontics graduates have successfully passed the Phase II written examination of the American Board of Orthodontics.

Accreditation
The program is accredited by the American Dental Association Commission on Dental Accreditation.

Certification
You will be eligible to take the American Board of Orthodontic examination upon completion of the fellowship.

Program History
The Orthodontics Residency began in the 1960’s, and since that time, more than 45 physicians have completed training. It is anticipated that one resident will complete training in this program annually.
