Program Description
Mayo Clinic's neurophysiology programs will prepare you for an academic
career by providing you with experience in teaching, research and
clinical studies. After completing your training, you will have
the knowledge and experience necessary to establish and supervise
a clinical neurophysiology laboratory in a teaching institution
or integrated group practice.
The Clinical Neurophysiology, Electroencephalography (EEG), Epilespy fellowship
is an integrated program, encompassing EEG and epilepsy. The fellowship
experience can be one or two years, depending on your clinical interests.
The EEG portion includes both didactic and clinical experiences.
The epilepsy portion of the program is designed for those who wish
to acquire knowledge and skills in the comprehensive management
of patients with epilepsy and its related disorders. During the
fellowship you will become proficient in:
- Interpreting EEGs
- Supervising prolonged recordings
- Coordinating special studies
- Surgical monitoring
- Clinical research
- Teaching other medical trainees
The fellowship also offers formal neurophysiology course work,
research opportunities and additional training in Mayo Clinic's
electromyography (EMG) and EEG laboratories.
Certification
Mayo Clinic's Clinical Neurophysiology, Electroencephalography
Fellowship Program is certified by the Accreditation Council for
Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and graduates are eligible to
take the Subspecialty Certification Examination in Clinical Neurophysiology,
given by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN).
This fellowship also meets the requirements for board certification
in EEG, offered by the American Board of Clinical Neurophysiology
(ABCN).
Program History
The Clinical Neurophysiology, Electroencephalography Fellowship
at Mayo Clinic in Rochester was established in 1960 and accredited
in 1996. Approximately 115 fellows have completed training in this
program. It is anticipated that going forward, three trainees will
complete this fellowship annually.
