Mayo International Health Program
The Mayo International Health Program (MIHP) enables Mayo residents and fellows to pursue elective rotations in underserved international communities. MIHP has a lasting, positive impact on the residents and fellows who participate in the program. Serving the needs of the underserved is an important part of training future generations of leaders in academic and clinical medicine.
Rotation settings are well planned and mentored. MIHP provides up to $2000 in financial support to help defray travel and basic living expenses for those selected to participate.
An experience with MIHP will help residents and fellows to:
- Provide valuable care to underserved patients
- Promote increased cultural awareness
- Provide exposure to the diagnosis and treatment of diseases not usually seen in modern Western medicine
- Increase awareness of cost-effective care in a setting of limited resources
- Promote improvement of history and physical examination skills
- Provide opportunities for research.
