Clinical Training
During a one-year program or in the first year of the two-year program,
you will concentrate on diagnostic hematopathology. The schedule
includes four-month rotations on the bone marrow service and the
lymph node service. You will learn the clinical, morphologic, phenotypic,
genetic and molecular genetic aspects of hematolymphoid disorders.
Depending on your previous experience and interests, you can add
a four-month rotation in other areas such as:
- Automated Hematology
- Cytogenetics
- Flow Cytometry
- Hemoglobinopathy
- Hemostasis or Thrombosis
- Immunoperoxidase
- Molecular Genetics
- Red Blood Cell Enzyme
Didactic Training
Throughout your fellowship you will participate in the conferences
held by the Hematopathology Division and the Division of Hematology.
You also can take advantage of the numerous educational activities
offered in the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology.
Research Training
Your second year in a two-year program will be devoted to research.
Your research project may be in the basic sciences related to hematology,
hemostasis and thrombosis, immunology or genetics. Or you may explore
the application of a laboratory technique to the diagnosis and prognosis
of hematologic disorders. When you successfully complete your project,
you will have opportunities for publication and presentations at
national meetings.
