Career Development Program
The career development program was created to allow participants to explore medical specialty career paths through workshops and individually tailored clinical experiences.
Eligibility Requirements
Successful applicants for the career development program must be:
- U.S. citizens or permanent residents enrolled in a United States LCME-accredited medical school
- Currently enrolled as a medical student between your second and third year of medical school
- Members of a group the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine considers underrepresented:
- Black/African American
- Hispanic/Latino
- American Indian and Alaska Native
- Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander
- Other racial and ethnic groups considered to be under-represented in medicine and biomedical research

This program provides tools to advance your own career and to introduce you to Mayo Clinic and the programs offered here:
- Learn more about the wide range of medical specialty training options available at Mayo Clinic
- Meet with residency program directors, faculty and residents
- Participate in workshops to build career skills and increase competitiveness of residency applications
- Learn about the Mayo Clinic Model of Care through outpatient and inpatient clinical observation
- Explore multiple medical specialty career paths and review career goals with experienced academic physicians
- Gain insight into the future of medicine and your options to be a leader in the medical community
Program Length
One week (Sunday arrival; Saturday departure)
Financial Support
Travel expense, meals and lodging are provided by Mayo Clinic.
