Positions
There are seven positions (five specialty/advanced and two categorical) available in the Dermatology Residency Program each year. The specialty/advanced positions are for the three years of dermatology (PGY-2 through PGY-4). The categorical positions include one year of preliminary internal medicine (PGY-1) here at Mayo Clinic in Rochester followed by the three years of dermatology (PGY-2 through PGY-4).
There is one position available in the Clinician-Investigator Training Program annually on a competitive basis. You need to be accepted in the Dermatology Residency Program to apply for this position.
How to Apply
You must apply through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). This can be done through your medical school dean’s office. The application form and all supporting documentation must be submitted by November 1, 19 months before you begin your PGY-2 year. The academic year begins the end of June.
You need not apply separately to the Preliminary Internal Medicine Program if you wish to be eligible for these categorical spots. Please be aware that there are two separate codes, however, when completing your application on ERAS. You may apply to both the specialty/advanced positions (PGY-2) AND the categorical positions (PGY-1). Also be certain to simultaneously apply for a Preliminary Internal Medicine position to cover yourself if you match to the PGY-2 program.
