Program Description
Mayo Clinic’s one-year fellowship program in Preventive Cardiology offers exposure to diverse areas, such as complex dyslipidemia, metabolic syndrome, premature and familial coronary artery disease, exercise and nutritional counseling, cardiac rehabilitation, and atherosclerotic imaging.
This multidisciplinary training program in Preventive Cardiology will provide you with the knowledge and skills necessary to prepare for a career in helping patients prevent cardiovascular disease.
The primary goal of this fellowship is to provide you with the knowledge, skills and strategies for successfully initiating and maintaining a preventive cardiology career using a team approach. The program provides additional research opportunities for fellows interested in cardiology careers with an emphasis on prevention.
We have a state-of-the-art preventive cardiology program that involves comprehensive coronary risk factor reduction, including the management of lipid disorders, exercise training, nutrition and smoking cessation. During the exercise laboratory experience, fellows spend allotted time in the preventative cardiology clinic working one-on-one with a CV prevention specialist.
This training program seeks to alleviate a perceived shortage in investigators with "state-of-the-art" research skills applied to the prevention of our nation’s leading cause of death, cardiovascular disease.
