Students must meet the high standards of both Mayo Medical School and Mayo Graduate School. The Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) and a bachelor's degree are required. Your college work must include:

  • One year of biology and/or zoology

  • Two years of chemistry (with lab, must include organic chemistry)

  • One year of physics (with lab)

  • One biochemistry course

  • One year of calculus

Although these are the minimum required science classes, successful applicants to the Medical Scientist Training Program always have exceptionally strong preparation in a science or engineering field. Additionally, extensive and progressively more advanced prior research experience is expected.
