Resources for Families

Residents have long praised Rochester as an ideal community to raise a family. The school system is one of the best in the state, and good, affordable housing is a top priority of the community. From a hometown children's theatre troupe and dozens of playgrounds to The Park at Mall of America, there's plenty of family fun close by.

Religious Groups
Rochester has more than 90 places to worship, representing 40 religions, denominations and sects.

Raising Children in Rochester
Plenty of quality services and programs are available to assist families with the care and education of their children. Many address the unique needs of those who work late or rotate shifts or weekends. Child Care Resource and Referral is a nonprofit organization serving parents, professionals and employers.

Thousands of children are outdoors for almost every favorite league sport, including soccer, hockey, football, baseball, softball and volleyball. There are more than 30 neighborhood playgrounds.

A number of community partnerships dedicated to youth enrichment and development are available through Olmsted County, including the Rochester Area Family Y. Parents are Important in Rochester is a parent/child education program available to all families with children from birth to kindergarten enrollment.

Public Library
The Public Library's collection has more than 290,000 books, plus magazines, CDs, videos and Internet access. Library cards are available to all Rochester and Olmsted County residents.
