As a Biomedical Engineering (BME) Program student you must complete approximately 25-30 credits from the BME curriculum. Occasionally, students require advanced, specialized course work not available at Mayo Clinic. In such cases, Mayo Graduate School supports student travel, housing and tuition fees for attendance at an appropriate university.
Students usually enter their thesis laboratory by the end of their first year. At the end of the second year, you may take the comprehensive written and oral qualifying examination. There are also formal and informal courses in general topics, including “Responsible Conduct of Research” (required for all students), “Grant Writing” and “Scientific Writing.” A series entitled “Life after Graduate School” explores all aspects of careers and life skills for the Ph.D. graduate.
