The requirements for the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (BMB) track conform to the general requirements of the Mayo Graduate School. A total of 42 credits are required which should include 10 credits of specified courses from the core curriculum, six credits of laboratory rotations, two credits of BMB workshop (BMB 5200), two credits of journal club (either BMB 8500 or BMB 8510), two credits of thesis proposal, six credits of intermediate courses, eight credits of advanced courses and six elective credits.
The BMB Program offers intermediate and advanced courses emphasizing cell function and architecture, the genetics of model organisms, the biology of membranes, physical biochemistry, macromolecular structure analysis, macromolecular engineering and cancer biology.
The BMB Program also offers an integrated multidisciplinary curriculum in the biology of cancer and specialized training in the biology of breast, ovarian, uterine, lung, gastrointestinal and prostate cancers.
Students will participate in the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Journal Club, Workshop and weekly BMB departmental seminars. As with all Mayo Graduate School programs, each student who selects the BMB track is free to choose a qualified research mentor from any Mayo Clinic laboratory, regardless of track affiliation.
