In Jacksonville, the medical library has been relocated from the Birdsall Medical Research Building to newly renovated space on the first floor of the Cannaday building. This moves the library to a more convenient location for the clinical staff, an improvement that will be even more noticeable once the new hospital opens in April 2008.
The facility has been upgraded with numerous conveniences. New lounge chairs are available with built-in work surfaces for writing or working on a notebook computer. There's a bar-height counter that has the look and feel of a coffee bar -- sans cappuccino. The entire library is Wi-Fi enabled.
The library has individual study carrels with either desktop workstations (one with a flatbed scanner) or thin client terminals. The terminals allow access to the Internet and library electronic resources for visitors without a Mayo computer account.
Six laptops are available for check-out and use in the library. These will also be used for hands-on training in the use of the library's electronic databases, available from the library home page.
