Electronic Document Delivery:
Upon request, Mayo Clinic staff and students receive copies of library articles
and book chapters electronically to their e-mail box, or via hard copy to their
office free of charge.
To make our document delivery system even more useful, library staff explore emergent hardware and software combinations. Our diligence is rewarded with continuous improvement to our copies, such as the high-resolution color scans suitable for Optical Character Recognition (OCR) and Adobe Acrobat markup.
Interlibrary Loan of books and journal articles: Mayo Clinic Libraries are
active participants in national library resource-sharing programs including the
National Network of Libraries of Medicine's DOCLINE and OCLC international
document delivery system. Through these national as well as state and regional
loan systems, Mayo Clinic Libraries annually receive an estimated 50,000
requests for documents from external libraries, and we request, through the same
systems, about 7,000 items for our employees and students.
