Mayo Clinic Distinguished Alumni Awards

The Mayo Clinic Distinguished Alumni Award was established in 1981 by the Mayo Clinic Board of Trustees to acknowledge and show appreciation for the exceptional contributions of Mayo alumni to the field of medicine, including medical practice, research, education and administration. Individuals who have received the awards have been recognized nationally and often internationally in their fields.

The Distinguished Alumni Award recognizes the outstanding attributes and accomplishments of individuals who have served at high levels in all aspects of their fields.

Candidate Requirements

A Mayo Clinic Alumni Association member
Has attained national or international peer recognition of accomplishments in education, research, clinical practice or administration
Published in significant scientific journals
Reached leadership in their field
Demonstrates professional integrity
Able to attend Mayo Clinic College of Medicine commencement ceremony held each May in Rochester

Nomination Process:

An alumnus or alumna of the Mayo Clinic Alumni Association may nominate one candidate each year. Previously nominated candidates may be resubmitted.
A nomination letter summarizing the nominee's attributes and accomplishments must be submitted, along with a current curriculum vitae and bibliography.
Letters supporting the nomination may be from Mayo Clinic alumni or other individuals. (Generally, five or more supporting letters are included.)

Previous Recipients

Mayo Foundation has established the Mayo Foundation Distinguished Alumnus Award, a recognition program in acknowledgement and appreciation of the many contributions to the field of medicine which have been accomplished by members of the Mayo Clinic Alumni Association.

Andrew Engel, M.D., Roland Moskowitz, M.D., Peter Pairolero, M.D., and Robert Wallace, M.D., will be awarded the 2008 Mayo Clinic Distinguished Alumni Awards, adding their names to a select group of individuals who have exemplified Mayo Clinic’s ideals and mission. Mayo Clinic Distinguished Alumni Awards were presented at a black-tie dinner at the Mayo Foundation House on Sept. 11, 2008, in Rochester.
