The Doctors Mayo Society

Our Leadership

Chairs of The Doctors Mayo Society

Edward C. Rosenow Jr., M.D., 1977-1982

Dr. Rosenow believes a private institution should have enough funds so that it can exercise the freedom to decline unwise government request. "By having private resources, we can be leaders in dealing with national medical issues and indirectly benefit public institutions."

Oliver H. Beahrs, M.D., 1982-1993

"At the time I took over as chair, there were 172 members of The Doctors Mayo Society. So many were my friends. I reminded others of what they had gained at Mayo and encouraged them to give back to Mayo to support future generations. Even though we see each other only once or twice a year, it's a great reunion when we get together."

John W. Joyce, M.D., 1993-2002

"The men and women of The Doctors Mayo Society want to honor those who trained them and share experiences with others who were here. It's a source of contact with their past. One of my goals was to quietly let people know that the organization was within their reach and that it was a collegial group that represents life at Mayo as we know it. It's a group activity for a common cause."

Miguel E. Cabanela, M.D., 2002-present

"The name and heritage of The Doctors Mayo Society come from the generosity of the Mayo Brothers Generations of colleagues continue this tradition. It is my goal to invite, encourage and welcome new members."
