A Study Of Cellular Characterization Of Autologous Serum Eye Drops

About this study

The purpose of this study is to partially characterize the cellular composition of eye drops (ASED) made from the whole blood of healthy individuals to help guide future ASED manufacturing and production and quantify relevant cell types and extracellular vesicles in ASED.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Subjects, 18 years and older, undergoing routine medical procedures that will have already require venipuncture or IV placement as part of a surgical procedure.

  • Complete a signed consent form.

Exclusion Criteria: 

  • History of superficial infection within 6 months of study enrollment, or evidence of current superficial infection.

  • Taking anticoagulant medications (e.g. warfarin, heparin) or clopidogrel (Plavix).

  • Taking anti-rheumatic disease medication (including methotrexate or other antimetabolites) within 3 months prior to study enrollment.

  • On chronic, immunosuppressive transplant therapy or having a chronic, immunosuppressive state, including use of systemic steroids/corticosteroids.

  • Systemic inflammatory, rheumatological or connective tissue disorder including but not  limited to rheumatoid arthritis, systemic sclerosis, system lupus erythematosus, and Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome.

  • Ongoing infectious disease, including but not limited to tuberculosis, HIV, hepatitis, and syphilis.

  • History of cancer/malignancy with the exception of adequately treated basal cell or squamous cell carcinoma of the skin within the last 5 years.

  •   History of blood dyscrasia, including but not limited to anemia, thrombocytopenia, and monoclonal gammopathy.

  • Currently pregnant individuals.

  • Individuals under the age of 18 years old.
