Animal Models of Peripheral Nerve and Spinal Cord Injury

Rachel Sarabia Estrada, D.V.M., Ph.D., has developed accurate preclinical animal models of spinal cord injury to study pressure ulcers, and has developed other models of sciatic nerve injury to study biodegradable materials. These models represent analogous human conditions in the laboratory and have been created in rodents in an effort to provide ideal platforms for therapeutic studies.

These animal models will help researchers apply therapies that introduce new approaches of targeted therapy and, in the future, may help scientists improve the treatment of lesions in the central nervous system.
