Research in the Artificial Intelligence (AI)-Enabled Precision in Liver Pathology Lab focuses on:

  • AI-enabled classification of etiologic liver disease. The lab builds and validates deep learning models that distinguish alcohol-associated liver disease, metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease and mixed-etiology disease patterns on digitized liver biopsy slides.
  • Objective severity scoring via digital histomorphometry. The lab generates reproducible, quantitative tissue measurements and relates these tissue measurements to clinical severity markers.
  • Spatial transcriptomic characterization of fatty liver disease. The lab applies spatial transcriptomics to map molecular differences in anatomical context.
  • Multimodal prognostic modeling. The lab combines multimodal data, including AI features, spatial biology and clinical metadata, into integrated prognostic models.
