A Study Of PREOP-SHAPE: Predicting Postoperative Outcomes With Submaximal Heart And Pulmonary Evaluation

About this study

The purpose of this study is to validate the SHAPE Test as an objective measure of preoperative functional capacity by assessing the association between SHAPE Test parameters and DASI scores, analyzed as continuous variables.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Age 18 years or older.

  • Scheduled for elective surgery non-cardiac surgery.

  • Ability to perform submaximal CPET.

  • Ability to provide informed consent.

  • Women of childbearing potential must have had a normal menstrual period within the past 3 weeks and must not report a missed menstrual period during that time.

 

Exclusion Criteria: 

  • Contraindications to exercise testing, including unstable cardiovascular disease or severe respiratory compromise.

  • Inability to ambulate or perform exercise due to musculoskeletal, neurological, or other limiting conditions.

  • Emergency surgery.

  • Active pregnancy.

  • Inability to provide informed consent.
