A Study Of Concussion And Driving After Emergency Department And Sports Medicine Evaluation

About this study

The purpose of this study is to understand how concussion affects real-world driving behaviors and recovery over the first 21 days after injury.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Age 16–50

  • Diagnosed concussion or mild traumatic brain injury within 72 hours

  • Access to a smartphone capable of receiving daily surveys

  • Valid driver’s license and routine access to a motor vehicle

  • Able to provide consent (or assent with parental consent for minors as required)

Exclusion Criteria:

  • Moderate or severe traumatic brain injury

  • Neurological or medical conditions that prohibit safe driving

  • No access to a vehicle

  • Intoxication or altered mental status preventing informed consent

  • Prisoners or other vulnerable populations (unless incidental)
