About this study

The purpose of this study is endotracheal Intubation of the newborn. Secondary outcomes include CPR, NICU admission, respiratory support after resuscitation, air leaks, therapeutic hypothermia, and duration of hospital stay.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

The study population is intentionally broad and includes all liveborn infants at participating centers who meet the following criteria:

  • Inborn (not transferred to the hospital after birth)
  • ≥ 34 weeks’ gestation, consistent with current recommendations and guidelines for SA5,15
  • Received PPV during neonatal resuscitation (as per provider’s clinical assessment).

Exclusion Criteria:

  • We will exclude infants with congenital diaphragmatic hernia (as they are universally intubated immediately after birth), infants with known airway anomalies, and infants born in hospital locations where the neonatal resuscitation team is not responsible for resuscitation (i.e., trauma bay).
