A Study Of Cardiac Rehabilitation And Atrial Fibrillation

About this study

The purpose of this study is to survey patients with atrial fibrillation and ascertain their estimated likelihood of participating in a clinical trial of cardiac rehabilitation (CR) versus usual care.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

 

  • Atrial Fibrillation – including paroxysmal, persistent, permanent.

  • At least 1 risk factor for atrial fibrillation:  Age ≥ 65 years, BMI >25, Hypertension, Diabetes, Coronary heart disease, Heart failure, Stroke/TIA, Sleep apnea, Tobacco use, Alcohol use.

 

Exclusion Criteria: 

  • Currently eligible for Cardiac Rehabilitation by current Medicare Coverage Decisions (Recent MI, PCI, CABG, Valve Replacement, Heart Transplant, Chronic Stable Angina, HF with EF £ 35%)

  • Previously attended CR in the past 3 years.

  • Prognosis anticipated to be < 1 year.

  • Planned hospitalization, PCI, or other cardiac procedure in the next 3 months.

  • Unable to complete a baseline exercise test on treadmill.

  • High risk ischemic results from baseline exercise test or known high risk coronary anatomy.
