A Study Of Understanding Skin Reactions To 5-Fluorouracil Through Specialized Photography

About this study

The purpose of this study is to evaluate whether ultraviolet-based imaging markers of cumulative photodamage and melanin distribution, measured prior to treatment, are associated with the spatial and temporal pattern of skin reaction to topical 5-fluorouracil as a surrogate marker of subclinical photodamage and pre-cancerous change administered as part of routine clinical care .

 

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Age 18 years or older

  • Current patient at Mayo Clinic being seen in Dermatology

  • Scheduled for treatment with 5-FU as part of their clinical care at Mayo Clinic

  • Treatment with 5-fluorouracil is expected to cover entire facial region

  • Able and willing to provide informed consent for participation

  • Willing to undergo standardized facial photography before, during, and after treatment

Exclusion Criteria:

  • Under the age of 18

  • Religious, cultural, or personal beliefs that preclude facial photography

  • Inability or unwillingness to comply with study procedure or visit schedule

  • Inability to provide informed consent
