A Study Of Secondary Patellar Resurfacing Following Primary Total Knee Arthroplasty

About this study

The purpose of this study is to address these gaps by evaluating the rate, indications, and outcomes of secondary patellar resurfacing in patients who underwent primary TKA without initial patellar resurfacing.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Primary total knee arthroplasty was performed at Mayo Clinic Rochester between January 1, 2000, and December 31, 2023.

  • Patients who subsequently underwent secondary patellar resurfacing at any point during follow-up

  • Availability of preoperative and postoperative radiographs.

 

Exclusion Criteria: 

  • Revision total knee arthroplasty

  • Use of a custom implant for a primary knee arthroplasty

  • Less than two years follow-up
