A Study Of Practical Geriatric Assessment Tool To Patients And Clinicians For Older Adults With Cancer

About this study

The purpose of this study is to assess the feasibility of automated delivery of a geriatric assessment form to patients and providers in an outpatient setting, measured by patient form completion rates and provider access before the visit. To evaluate patient and provider satisfaction with the automated GA delivery process. To identify barriers and facilitators to implementation based on survey feedback. To assess the impact of the Practical Geriatric Assessment on rates of grade 3-5 adverse events from cancer-directed therapy.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

·        Participants must be 65 years of age or older or be considered frail by physician assessment.

·        Participants must have a cancer diagnosis.

·        Participants or their caregiver proxy must be fluent in English.

·        Participants must have access to email and the ability to complete the geriatric assessment survey.

·        All participants are eligible.

·        Participants or their caregiver proxy must be able to provide informed consent.

·        Participants must be scheduled for an outpatient visit at the Mayo Clinic Arizona for an appointment on that day.

·        Participants or their designated caregiver proxy should be able to provide self-reported information regarding their physical function, nutritional status, social support, psychological health, comorbidities, and cognitive function.

 

Exclusion Criteria:

·       Participants who are unable to complete the survey either online or on paper and who do not have a caregiver proxy to complete the survey will be excluded.

·       Participants who are unable to provide informed consent and who do not have a designated caregiver proxy will be excluded.

·       Participants who are not scheduled for an outpatient visit will be excluded.
